This is my complete list of gear for my 2017 John Muir Trail northbound hike from Onion Valley to Happy Isles, Yosemite.

For being my first long thru-hike, I was very pleased with the contents and performance of this kit.  My pack rode extremely well even when fully loaded on day 1 (food/water included in that weight).  While I was very happy with my gear selection for this solo journey, I still learned a few things about my needs on this trip which will change my future pack lists for long hikes.  For instance, I discovered that water shoes weren't worth the weight as I never actually used them for any water crossings (I just went right in with my Altra trail runners and changed out my socks throughout the day as needed).  Lessons learned that come with the experience of a hike of this distance and complexity.

This list was created to assist me in decreasing my backpacking gear weight wherever possible, and to gauge the weight of adding different versions of items that I may or may not need or want. Every item in this list was personally measured individually at least twice on 2 different digital food scales to ensure accuracy versus manufacturer's listed weights. Most items actually weighed in heavier than manufacturer specs based on readings of both of my scales.

Some items have been modified from their originally shipped condition either for weight savings or for conveniences added. For example, some items have been trimmed of excess cordage, straps, liners, etc. and some items have had items added such as attach points, lengthened cordage, labels, tape, magnets, and accessories. Their current actual weights are represented correctly in this list.
