Zpacks Arc Blast 55 liter
Made with Dyneema® carbon fabric and a external carbon composite frame! Some report that the Arc Blast is very comfortable until you cross the 25 lb total weight threshold. If that is true, then this sould be the perfect 5-6 day ultralight backpack! Zpacks says that it's capable of 35 lb loads, so looks like it would be good for those rare long ten day hauls, such as on the PCT through the high Sierra's.

TarpTent ProTrail Li
I've hiked thousands and thousands of miles using Henry Shire's Tarptents, and this is my 3rd one in 20 years. And this is the first one made with Dyneema® carbon fiber fabric! I never thought that I'd live to see such a quality tent with this much inside living space, complete with a bathtub floor at under one pound. Insane, and I think I'm gonna like it!

Enigma Custom +30 Quilt
Made in the USA by Enlightened Equipment and filled with 950fp grey goose down, which is the very best and lightest grade there is per square inch. For the inner and outer shells, I decided to go with the mid-weight 10D - 0.65oz per yard nylon fabric, which isn't the heaviest, nor the thinnest. Also had a draft collar sewn in.

Gossamer 1/8" Foam Pad
Used under Tarptent & for a seat pad during the day. Setting up my tarptent I put the Gossamer pad on the ground first, then set my shelter on top, then I put my Thermarest inside the tarptent directly under my sleeping bag or quilt. I also open up my Frogg Togg parka inside the tarptent at the foot of my sleeping bag or quilt, thus providing more insulation and moisture barrier from the ground, especially the ground that my Thermarest air matress don't cover.

Esbit Stove
Homemade combo pot holder/windscreen for Esbit fuel tablets. I invented this from using a piece of rain gutter. I cut the wind shield out of a grocery store turkey drip sheet. Just cut out a 1-1/2" section of rain gutter, then work it 'round' with your fingers. Cut out chimney vents on top, then drill intake holes near the bottom. Then "Presto" you have one of the lightest stoves in the world!

DIY cup
Made my cup from cutting the bottom out of a water bottle, then boiling it in hot water for shrinking and shaping. Used for thousands of miles, mostly for that morning cup of coffee! I also used a Sharpie to put measuring lines on the cup. I invented this cup at the 2001 PCT 'Annual Day Zero' event and won 2nd Place in their DIY ultralight gear contest. I was awarded a really HEAVY Leatherman knife, which I had to mail home before my thru-hike. lol

Esbit Fuel Tablets (5)
1 to 1-1/2 tablets/day...coffee & one hot meal. I've never found a lighter way to cook my food and the best part is that it's legal to mail them ahead to yourself. I mail my 'bounce' box approximately 175 miles ahead of myself continiously while on the trail, so I can re-supply about every two weeks. These fuel tablets also work great at starting a fire very quickly, even in wet conditions. On this years hike my down sleeping bag got wet one night on the bottom and despite the rain that night I got a fire going quickly to dry it out. Doubles as a GREAT emergency item too! Incidentally, Esbit says that the tablets have a 10 year shelf life, but I beg to differ. I'm currently pulling my tablets from a 21 year old stash and they still work GREAT! One word of caution though is to keep them dry because moisture will greatly stifle lighting them. I keep them in double Ziplock baggies.

Sawyer filter SP150 Coupling
For cleaning filter & gravity feed connector. Don't have to pack the cleaning syringe that comes with your Sawyer filter if you have this adapter and a smart water bottle for reverse pumping water action! It's also worth its weight in gold as a connector between your Sawyer filter and two water bags for gravity filtering. Just hang it up and relax! A word of caution when using this coupling, it is especially important to always be observant of the 'flow arrow' on the filter, because it is now very easy to reverse filter dirty water from the bag to your drinking bottle. Still, a MUST have in my book!

Aquafina Bottle 20 oz.
The 20 oz. size (1.2 pints) and its threads fit perfectly with the Sawyer water filter AND the Platypus water bladder! Seems that most thru-hikers use the one quart size Smart water bottles, but this one works best for me. I will be experimenting with other workable bottles, but so far I'm happy with this one! Not too big, not too small.

Railriders Adventure Pants
I'm packing these for at least to Okeechobee where I might put them in my bounce box, but I want to see if they're needed for sun protection on the dikes. The description shows them at about 10 oz. but I dumped the belt and then cut off excess length to fit 'me', then hemmed them back, thus losing over 3 oz. of uneeded weight..

Saucony Men's PEREGRINE 11
size 9 EE wide (10.6 oz. ea) Very stable shoe with a front ring for gaiters, although I did have to gorilla glue on a Velcro strip to the back for my Dirty Girl gaiters! It is said that for every pound you take off your shoes is equivallent to taking 5lbs off your back! But to enjoy using the light trail runner shoes, you gotta get your backpack weight into the ultralight zone.

Can't even begin to describe all of the uses for the iphone, from my camera to the complete nerve center of my hike! It is made for rugged outdoor use as Apple claims it's their most shock resistant and waterproof phone yet! According to Apple Official : iPhone 12 mini waterproof is IP68 Rating Survive underwater 6 meters depth for 30 minutes under IEC standard 60529. Just don't get much better than THAT! I carry iphone on my backpack shoulder strap, so thus included it as part of my base weight.

Bodyglove Waterproof case
For iphone 12 mini. This iphone is already the most water repellent and shock resistant phone made by Apple and can handle a lot of moisture & abuse, but it's just so important a piece of equipment that I like this additional protection. I also like the nylon wrist strap that comes with it which gives me additonal phone protection in certain situations. I've hiked hundreds of miles with it and couldn't be more pleased! I carry iphone on my backpack shoulder strap, so thus included it as part of my base weight.

Food/Water (for 3 days)
Price Weight qty -
Food for 3 days
Approx 2lb/day. Three days food puts my total pack weight at about 19 lbs, and I've heard a lot of comments that the Zpacks Arc Blast backpack might start to get uncomfortable above 25 lbs, so maybe it will be a good 5 day backpack, which will be about perfect for most of my long-distance hiking. Some people can get by with just 1.5 lbs food/day, but so far I can't. Still, I'm always studying other fat dense foods to lighten the load, but finding foods that I enjoy has still left me at approximately 2 lbs/day.

Water
16 oz/ Very rarely ever carry water. Water is HEAVY, although I usually have to late in the day when looking for a campsite. I do usually carry a cup or two of water in my Smart Water bottle, which I refer to as my 'panic' water. lol

Bounce Box
Price Weight qty -
Bounce Box
Currently adding items in my bounce box, which I mail ahead to myself about every 175-200 miles. It's like one of those 5-6 gallon food containers sold at any of the big box home improvement stores. I got the 'green beast' at a local restaurant, where it had previously been a pickle container. So far, it's traveled the full distance of the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail and still going strong! The post office clerks love it because of the handle and it's easy to find on their shelf since it's so different. Can't imagine long-distance hiking without it!

Esbit Fuel Tablets
Best part of having a bounce box is that it's legal to mail my fuel tablets to myself. I'm totally fuel self-sufficient, so I can spend more time in town eating pizza and ice cream rather than hunting down another fuel cannister!

Food
I usually have several food favorites in my box and especially the ones that I might have a hard time finding in a trail town. Mostly freeze dried meals here.

Brooks Cascadia 15 Trailrunnerss
Size EE. Good comfortable shoes overall, but the toe boxes on both shoes began peeling back after about 200 miles. Nothing that a drop of superglue can't fix, but Golly Gee! (11 oz. each)

Tenacious tent repair patches
Have never had to use, because when an ultralight shelter costs you $500.00+ you tend to develop a sixth sense for treating it with GREAT care! I took these out of my maintenance/repair kit because Henry Shires sent me repair material when I bought my Tarptent. (.3 oz.)
