Listed from lightest to heaviest. (updated with new pad versions for 2023)

These pads are all described by the manufacturer as being "Long / Wide." They range from 24" to 30" wide. Lengths range from 76" to 78", and thickness is at least 3", except for the S2S Comfort Plus pads which are 2.5". Most are available in both tapered and rectangular shape; the rectangular versions are listed here, as they have more room for comfort.

R-values shown are provided by the manufacturer.

The Sea To Summit Comfort Plus pads, while they are somewhat thinner, have dual chambers. These can be inflated firm on the bottom to prevent "grounding out," and soft on the top for additional comfort. Users report that they are unusually comfortable. However, they weigh well over two pounds.

This list is far from comprehensive; it is biased for thickness, larger size and lighter weight, and pads lacking insulation are omitted. The selection is aimed at hikers in colder landscapes, with specific comfort and warmth requirements.

  • Note: there are some reports of problems with the Big Agnes Zoom UL Insulated pad. The interior reflective materiel can shift and compress, and become ineffective.
