Backpack
KS Ultralight KS40 - with Rockwest Composite carbon frame stays. I consider the KS40 the perfect pack when the max load is +/- 27lbs. I keep looking, but no bag has as much carrying ability for such low weight. A high level of back cushion comes from the ccf foam in the pad pockets.

Backpack padding + much more
Gossamer Gear 1/8in ccf foam pad - Is the padding for my backpack, but also adds sleeping warmth, blocks sharp stuff on ground, is a backup pad, sit pad, seista pad, keeps air mattress from slipping, emergency torso insulation, and emergency warm skirt.

Packliner + Pillow Case
Exped Fold dry bag XL 22L- Dry bags compress gear better than nylofume/compacter packliners and more reliable during a river crossing. In camp I use the packliner over my pillow with any soft gear I have to make a huge and comfortable pillow.

Shelter
Durston X-Mid Pro 1 - This is a roomy 1 person tent that let's you store all your gear in the tent. The head room is excellent, the tent goes all the way to the ground for improved rain splashback, and amazing cross ventilation from double doors.

Sleep Pad
Thermarest Xlite WIDE - There are lighter pads, but this one has 30d fabric, which I consider the starting point of a durable sleeping pad. No pad has so much warmth (R Value = 4.5) for so little weight. The pad noise is much reduced from previous years versions.

Quilt
Katabatic Gear Palisade 30F/-1C Quilt – Horizontal baffles give you the ability to shift down insulation away from your core, to tailor warmth to conditions. It has higher loft than competitors, a class leading pad attachment system that keeps drafts out by ensuring the quilt never leaves the pad. Pertex Quantum Y Fuse shell is 20d strong, and handles condensation better than featherweight 10d options. Lastly it has a warmth trapping neck baffle, a loft preserving differential cut, and a larger foot shaped footbox.

Pillow
Nemo Fillo Elite Luxury 21in wide pillow with its heavy outer cover removed. I then stuff the inner pillow inside my 22L pack liner, along with any soft things I can get my hands on, wrap my buff around it, to make a 22in/56cm wide pillow worthy of home use.

Montbell Versalite Rain Pant - Sometimes it is nice to have full rain protection, especially at altitude. They weigh 2oz more than windpants, but are undoubtably warmer. Would not use in hot conditions

Stop Top Insulation
Borah Hooded Down Jacket - 3.3oz of fill and larger baffles. For a morning low of 30F (which is the definition 3 Season), aim for 3-4oz of down fill. You can lean towards 3oz if you use an Alpha 90 top like I do.

Walking/Sleep Bottom
Senchi 60 gsm Alpha - Legs don't need much insulation, but seperate pants are crucial for changing into after a soaking in the rain. If you need to hike in these, wear pants over them; Alpha does not tolerate thigh rub well.

Water Purification
Katadyn BeFree 0.6L. Very fast flow that decreases but stays reasonable. Bag opening is WIDE and acts as a water scoop at low flow sources. Easy to put in your sleeping bag on a freezing night. Unlike the Sawyer Squeeze, there's no O-ring to loose and doesn't tip over in a side pocket. Vinegar clean it during town stops. Patch the bag with Flex Tape.

Food Storage
Wallaby 1 Gallon Mylar Bags (7.5mil) - If you want high amounts of food odor proofing it helps to have mylar bags with aluminum film. This is why at an outdoor store, you can be standing next to 400 bagged meals and smell NOTHING. 1 Gallon bags hold 3-3.5 days of food and your first days food would be outside, for a total of 4-4.5 days of food carry. Bonus, the bags stand up for easy filling and 7.5mil thickness is very tough.

Mesh Under Shirt - Summer
Castelli Mesh undershirt. The open mesh allows sweat to come to your skin and directly change phases from liquid to vapor. Phase changes on your skin add an extra cooling effect. Wicking is somewhat of an outdoor gear myth, you want the sweat to evaporate ON your skin and to just go away. SIZE UP WITH THIS SHIRT

Down Balaclava - 40F and under
Goosefeet Gear "Matt Shafter" Balaclava - A balaclava is used for cold sleeping but the balaclava is also intended to replace your down jacket hood. Why? Because down jackets have hoods that give very bad face coverage. Mine has lots of lateral face coverage, ensuring warmth when temps drop and winds kick up.

Shamma Warriors. These are the lightest camp "shoes" that will actually protect the bottom of your feet AND stay securely on your feet. Size 13 = 7.5oz for both sandals. If it's a short range trip, these are always coming. Get the Ultragrip tops as leather has worse grip when wet.
