Big shoutout to Matt Shafter for showing me where to start with ultralight backpacking gear and doing it comfortably. I decided to make a gear loadout for my boujee Asian people, like me, who want an aesthetic balance of light weight and luxury comfort. By some divine miracle, the base weight totaled 8.88 lbs. For those unfamiliar, these numbers symbolize good fortune and wealth to various Asian cultures. Like a good Asian, I took precise measurements by weighing small items on a digital gram scale and a shipping scale for larger items, a shipping scale measured in ounces. Be advised, this year I am level 35, 5'10", & 160 lbs. and total weight will differ depending on your size. Luxury gear is expensive but may be worth it to save weight and increase luxury items like: a spacious tent, tripod, wireless microphone, two pillows for side sleeping, and camp shoes! My personal preference is to not sacrifice sleep & food quality. I also think taking care of our feet, or roots, is a foundational practice in backpacking. Decreasing weight also helps decrease feet stress. This increases overall enjoyment being outdoors while keeping things ultralight. Remember to have fun and bring at least one luxury item. Give yourself at least four months to gather all the items as some lead times are ~16 weeks or more. Hope this Lighterpack setup helps people looking to start, upgrade, or develop ultralight skills.
