Summer Couple Kit for frosty_8
This kit is used for trips w/Magoo mostly in the Northeast/New England on or near the AT. Typically we will go 3–5 days between resupply. We usually average 1.5 lbs of food per day per person. Consumables are calculated for a 4 day trip.
When out for a week or less, we do not bring the charging brick. If out for a weekend, we bring neither the charging brick nor the battery pack.
Items with a red star are trip dependent. The quantity is included for the trip dependent items that are brought more often than not. For items brought less frequently the quantity is listed as "0."
Items with a green star are shared and divided evenly between the two of us by weight. To account for the shared items the weights are the actual full weight, but the item quantity is halved.
Items with the yellow star have been ordered, but not yet received.
When hiking solo, I will swap out the SMD Haven and net tent for a Twinn Tarp (9 oz) and a EE Recon Bivy (6.84 oz).
Previous year's (2020) solo kit can be seen here.
Some of the gear can be seen in use at Go Play Outside.

EE Revelation APEX 40° Long/Slim (20D out, 10D in) [This weight is without the straps since I do not bring them. If I were to order another Apex Revelation I would get 10D out and 7D in. MLD FKT with a poncho hole is another interesting option.]

Sleep Pad
GG Thinlight Foam Pad - 1/8" [Tried the MLD GoodNight EVA 1/8″ Foam Pad for a section. It seemed slightly less comfortable and less durable. It ripped on the second day of the trip. So, I'm switching back to the GG 1/8 inch pad. Other hikers were sometimes surprised to see a gray bread like me spreading it out. "Is that comfortable?" Me: "To sleep on? No, not very." In reality, you just have to lay at slightly different angles than normal, then it's not bad.]

Empty Powerade bottle [I'm a winter camper where pee bottles are more common. When one of my winter camping buddies saw I was bringing on a summer trip he said, "I don't know how I feel about you bringing the pee bottle into the summer." My response, "After using it on a long summer trip, I've considered bringing it into the bedroom."]

Pack
LiteAF Curve X30L (VX07) [New this season. Required features for me are padded hip belt and a way to attach four panels of sleep pad against my back. Last year I used the GG G4-20. It worked very well. Minor complaints were that it had about 5L too much volume, and it was a little heavier than the most UL packs.]

Tiki LE w/homemade UL headband [The Tiki LE itself weighs .39 oz. It has three brightness settings and a red light. If I did frequent night hikes I would bring a second Tiki LE since it is easy to swap out lights into the headband. Even with 2 Tikis and one UL headband, it still comes out marginally lighter than the NU25 with the UL headband (.95 oz vs.1.13 oz). I usually only bring one Tiki LE though since I don’t often night hike.]

Ursack Major 2XL [One of the heaviest items I bring. It is worth it for me. Hanging a bear bag stinks and is likely ineffective. While I personally do not mind sleeping with my food, I feel it is poor etiquette to do so in shelters shared with others who are uncomfortable with such practice. The Ursack is just so easy to tie to a tree. I'll chalk it up as a luxury item.]

MYOG Stove
MYOG Esbit Stand/alcohol stove [THIS IS THE SECRET to the system. It is so simple, yet wildly efficient. It will bring two cups of water to a boil in reasonable 3-season conditions with 8 grams of Esbit or 11 grams of alcohol. To build, cut a small sized (7.5 oz) soda can 13/16th of an inch from the bottom. Turn it upside-down and burn Esbit in the divot, turn it upside-right to burn alcohol. I use this set up nearly exclusively with Esbit, but it burns both alcohol and wood very efficiently as well.]
