2020 Gear List
Solo Summer Kit for frosty_8
This kit is used for solo trips mostly in the Northeast/New England on or near the AT. Typically I will go 3–5 days between resupply. I usually average 1.5 lbs of food per day. Consumables are calculated for a 4 day trip. When out for a week or less, I do not bring the charging brick. If out for a weekend, I bring neither the charging brick nor the battery pack. Items with a red star are trip dependent.
When hiking with my wife, I will swap out the tarp and bivy for a Six Moon Designs silnylon Haven Tarp (18 oz) and a net tent (16 oz).
Some of the gear can be seen in use at Go Play Outside.

EE Revelation APEX 40° Long/Slim (20D out, 10D in) [This weight is without the straps since I do not bring them. If I were to order another Apex Revelation I would get 10D out and 7D in. MLD FKT with a poncho hole is another interesting option.]

Pee Bottle
Empty Powerade bottle [I'm a winter camper where pee bottles are more common. When one of my winter camping buddies saw I was bringing on a summer trip he said, "I don't know how I feel about you bringing the pee bottle into the summer." My response, "After using it on a long summer trip, I've considered bringing it into the bedroom."]

Spoon
Primus Longspoon [While this is not the very lightest spoon available, it has my favorite ergonomics. The angle and size of the bowl are ideal in my opinion. They can be difficult to find. Fortunately my local outfitter carries them. In the end, these break to easily. I will be looking for a new spoon.]

Kilt
Zpacks DCF Rain Kilt [Perhaps a luxury item. I am more comfortable keeping my waist to knees dry in the rain. While the kilt breathes much better than rain pants, they do trap more heat than I expected. I also use the kilt as wind pants, a dry place to sit after rain, and to keep gear off the wet ground. A multi-use item.]

Food Bag
Ursack Major 2XL [One of the heaviest items I bring. It is worth it for me. Hanging a bear bag stinks and is likely ineffective. While I personally do not mind sleeping with my food, I feel it is poor etiquette to do so in shelters shared with others who are uncomfortable with such practice. The Ursack is just so easy to tie to a tree. I'll chalk it up as a luxury item.]
