Itinerary: Park at Hunting Hollow parking lot. Hike 10.5 miles to Coit Lake, then another 1.3 miles to Pacheco camp. Return by longer (13.8 mi.) route via Cross Canyon Trail the next day. Estimated 26 miles and 5000’ of cumulative elevation gain.
Expected weather: clear, sunny skies on both Friday and Saturday with daytime highs reaching around 75 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Breezy southwest winds on Friday will ease to a light breeze on Saturday. Expect clear nights with overnight low temperatures dropping to approximately 55 degrees Fahrenheit and zero chance of rain.
Insects: Expecting low to moderate mosquito activity near water sources; late spring is prime tick season at Henry Coe.
H2O: Water availability at Henry Coe is heavily seasonal, meaning reliable water in main reservoirs and the larger creeks like Coyote Creek, but smaller springs and seasonal streams are likely already dry.

Tarp
Gear Swifts minimalist tarp. 8’-2” x 4’ -6”. Weight includes guyline (Z-line). No rain expected: this is to protect against morning dew. I’ll use foraged sticks for the poles.

Bivy
Borah Gear Cuben Bivy. Early June is high tick season and drying water pools make mosquitoes a possible nuisance. Obviates the need for a groundsheet. Adds 5F of warmth to my sleep system when fully zipped.
