Kungsleden - Abisko to Hemavan - 286 miles

Swedish Tourist Association - Kungsleden trail

This includes a couple of side quests

  • Summit Kebnekaise (Giebmegáisi) the highest mountain in Sweden at 6879ft via the Durlings led then returning via the Western Trail (Västra Leden).
  • Summit camp at Skierfe above the Laitaure delta in the Sarek national park

Swedish Tourist Association - Kebnekaise

Swedish Tourist Association - Sarek national park

Trail Specific

  • Ice Spikes - Kahtoola MICROspikes - probably only for the Kebnekaise summit.

  • Waterproof Socks - Rocky Goretex - great if it is oppressively wet and cold.

  • Drone - super light weight full automated drone to capture some remote bits without disturbing anyone/anything.

Considered alternative kit

  • Sleeping Bag/Quilt - Valley and Peak custom APEX 200 (-1°C/30°F) (M/R) 702g - Was originally planning on taking this to deal with the possible moisture/wet weather better. But I figured I'd probably be better with a warm down bag if I plan to camp on high-ground near Kebnekaise or Skierfe. Figure I can always unzip and use it as a quilt if it is too warm. Better to be too warm than too cold I think. Plus despite the small amount of extra weight, the down bag actually packs a lot smaller than the synthetic quilt.

  • Sleeping Mat - Gram-counter Gear Featherweight Evazote (110x50x.3cm) 56 g - Tried and trusted - but I think the Neo Air NXT makes much more sense on this trip. Warmer and more comfortable if the ground is hard/cold - again especially if I camp on high ground.

  • Tarp/Bivy- Trekker Tent custom Flat .8 oz DCF (270x180cm) 158 g / Borah Gear custom Ultralight Bivy Argon 90 side-zip (R/W) 187 g. My usual set up, but I think an enclosed tent makes more sense especially as there might be insect pressure at the start of the trial. Having an enclosed space I can do admin in is just easier than having to dive into my bivy if the mosquitoes are an issue.

  • Down Jacket - PHD Ultra Down Pullover K Series (M) 195 g - figured this might be overkill for the temperatures, plus the Montbell packs smaller. Also, I don't feel like I would need as warm a jacket if I am taking a down bag, as I am unlikely to need the extra down layer to sleep in.

  • Water - Sawyer Squeeze 82 g /2l Cnoc VectoX 92 g /1l Generic plastic bottle 34g - This would be my go to setup, but I've wanted to try the Katadyn BeFree for a while, and it saves weight and space so I thought I'd give it a go.
