Backpacking Trip Report: Shenandoah National Park

Weather: Temperatures ranged from the low 50s to high 80s Fahrenheit. Hot during the day, but comfortable at night.

Gear Used: Switchback 6 panel with buff stuffed with Cap for pillow: Super comfortable for sleeping. Big climbs were manageable. Purchased a shirt along the way, adding to the weight.

Gear Not Used: Klymit Pillow X Inflatable Pillow Beanie Cap Bottoms (wearing) Cap Top (slightly used) Head net (thought I didn't have it) Trowel (used bathrooms along the way) Rain gear and wind pants (brought but not needed)

Itinerary: Day 1: Started at 4H and hiked 20 miles, stealth camping near an elk wallow. Day 2: Continued hiking, distance unknown. Set up a stealth camp near Skyland, up from a gravel road. Day 3: Covered an unknown distance and reached Big Meadows Campground, securing a campsite. Day 4: Hiked 9 miles to Lewis Mountain Campground. Found a site and encountered a creepy camp store employee asking about pot. Day 5: Treked 26 miles to Loft Mountain Campground, a huge campground where I secured a site. Day 6: Hiked 22 miles to Calf Mountain Shelter. Not the best experience as I had to camp under dead trees or in a shelter filled with mice. Day 7: Covered 8 miles to Waynesboro, where I hitched into town for some Ming's food. Hitched back to the 4H to end the trip.
