Thoughts post-hike:

Things I didn't use or almost never used:

  • fanny pack hip belt

  • 5000 mAh battery

  • spare battery for Nikon AF

  • Puffy. Only ever wore it like 3 times, and only for a few minutes. Never slept in it. Alpha+wind layers goes a long way. I could have gone without it entirely, or at least have carried a lighter and more packable 0.75 SDUL. There was maybe one night where it would have been nice to sleep in it, and I was a bit cold.

  • Zpacks camp shoes. Occasionally handy, but simply not necessary. Would have been no problem to just wear trail runners. These just weren't good enough to be worthwhile. I'd almost rather have crocs or nothing.

  • The trekking pole massager is nice in theory. Wish I used it more. But also it needs some fine-tuning to be worth it. It comes apart easily. Maybe some rubber o-rings on the pole could help.

  • Didn't use nearly as much bodyglide as I carried. Could probably carry less in some way

  • slept in my alpha pants every night, but never once hiked in them. Probably an indicator that they could be dropped unless overnight temps are quite cold. Could instead sleep in wind pants, which I did not try. I did wear the alpha pants around camp a lot, however. Maybe best for trips with camp time.

Changes I made on-trail:

  • reduced 1L Smartwater for filtering to 700ml

  • needed to buy more sunscreen and/or borrow. 0.5 fl oz is only enough for 2-3 days.
