Terms of Use

LighterPack is a free website for tracking the gear you take on adventures, operated by Galen Maly. By using it, you agree to what's below.

The short version
Your lists belong to you. Don't use LighterPack to spam people or to host things you don't have the right to host. It's free and provided as-is — it's a planning tool, not safety equipment. We can remove accounts that break these rules.
Your account
You need to be 13 or older to create an account.
You're responsible for what happens under your account, so pick a password you don't use anywhere else. Give us an email address that actually reaches you — it's the only way we can help you recover your account.
You can also use LighterPack without an account, in which case your lists are stored in your browser rather than on our servers. These terms still apply.
Your content belongs to you
You keep ownership of everything you put into LighterPack — your lists, your item descriptions, your photos. We don't claim any of it.
To actually run the service, we need your permission to store your content, display it back to you and to serve it publicly. Creating a list means anyone with the link can view it, embed it in another page, or export it as CSV. That permission lasts as long as the content is on LighterPack and ends when you delete it, except that we can't retrieve copies other people have already made.
What you can't do
Don't use LighterPack to:
- post spam
- upload images or text you don't have the rights to
- post anything illegal, or anything that harasses or targets another person
- impersonate someone else
- try to access other people's accounts, or probe the site's authentication
- hammer the site with automated traffic, or bulk-scrape lists that aren't yours
- resell access to the service or present it as your own
This isn't a complete list.
Moderation
We can remove content and suspend or delete accounts that break these rules. If you think we've made a mistake, email info@lighterpack.com and we'll take another look. You can delete your own account at any time from Account → Delete account.
LighterPack is provided as-is
There's no warranty of any kind. The site may have bugs, and it may be wrong.
In particular: LighterPack is a planning tool, not safety equipment. You are responsible for your own gear choices and your own decisions in the field.
No guarantees about availability
LighterPack is free, and it's run by one person in their spare time. It may go down, change, lose features, or shut down entirely. There's no uptime commitment and no support obligation.
Don't let LighterPack be the only copy of anything you'd be upset to lose — you can export any list to CSV at any time.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any damages arising out of your use of LighterPack, including lost data or anything that happens on a trip you planned with it.
The software and the service are different things
LighterPack's source code is licensed under the GPL-2.0, and that license gives you broad rights to use, modify, and redistribute it. These terms are not about the code — they cover the hosted service at lighterpack.com.
If you run your own copy of LighterPack, the GPL governs what you can do with the software, and these terms don't apply to your instance. You'll need your own.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms in the future.
